Price County: Musser Lake Early Detection Invasives Control: The Price County Land Conservation in cooperation with the Musser Lake Association will sponsor a project to treat curly-leaf pondweed in Musser Lake, with the goal of early eradication. 38 small areas containing CLP have been marked by the lake association and monitored to date. Beginning in Spring of 2005 areas will be treated in accordance with the Department issued Aquatic Plant Management permit. Follow up treatment of these areas and/or new areas will be conducted in Spring of 2006 and 2007. The association will also provide an educational component to teach area residents of the dangers of aquatic invasive species and control/prevention measures, as well as giving periodic project updates.

Products:

1) Pioneer beds of curly-leaf pondweed will be chemically treated in accordance with the Department issued Aquatic Plant Management permit.
2) Pre and post treatment surveys (for known and unknown areas of infestation), mapping the location and densities of CLP, will be conducted.
3) Follow up treatment and monitoring of affected areas will continue in 2006 and 2007.
4) Annual progress reports and a final report will be made available to the DNR, Price County Land Conservation Dept., local lake associations, districts, and media.

Project activities/goals include: 1) Restoration of native vegetation species by inhibiting the growth and spread of EWM to the greatest degree possible and practical; 2) Monitor and measure the effectiveness of the drawdown by conducting 4 point intercept aquatic plant surveys (1 pre 2008 and 3 post (2009, 2010, 2011)); 3) Install leased aerators to maintain the oxygen levels in areas to minimize or prevent winter fish kill that could occur as a result of drawdown; 4) Educate the local community and lake residents about the reasons for the planned drawdown making sure lake association members are informed about this project; 5) Monitor Milfoil weevil presence; 6) Monitor emergent plant growth response to drawdown.

Project deliverables include a final report including: a summary of public acceptance of drawdown and were educational programs and sessions worthwhile; the effectiveness or aerators including results of dissolved oxygen readings; a summary of emergent plant bed response; a summary of weevil abundance; a Provide hard copy of point intercept data in proper spreadsheet format. This will include pre and post monitoring of the aquatic plant community before and after a draw down, and a plan to evaluate options of Eurasian Water Milfoil (EWM) control and future lake management alternatives.

The project includes the following goals: 1) Involve local stakeholders in the planning process; 2) Conduct curly-leaf pondweed survey; 3) Conduct a pre and post point -intercept plant survey (2010-11); 4) Complete native and non-native community mapping; 5) Complete sediment compaction surveys (2010-11); 6) Complete a shoreline assessment; 7) Complete a watershed assessment; 8) Conduct lake water quality monitoring/evaluation; 9) Compile fisheries data information; 10) Evaluation of the draw down; 11) Conduct Dreissena Mussel monitoring; 12) Development of a lake management plan (including EWM control options).

Project deliverables include: 1) The final report should include the methodologies and results of the tasks listed above. Management, protection, enhancement alternatives and recommendations should be presented along with continued public education issues. Project activities/goals include: 1) Restoration of native vegetation species by inhibiting the growth and spread of EWM to the greatest degree possible and practical; 2) Monitor and measure the effectiveness of the drawdown by conducting 4 point intercept aquatic plant surveys (1 pre 2008 and 3 post (2009, 2010, 2011)); 3) Install leased aerators to maintain the oxygen levels in areas to minimize or prevent winter fish kill that could occur as a result of drawdown; 4) Educate the local community and lake residents about the reasons for the planned drawdown making sure lake association members are informed about this project; 5) Monitor Milfoil weevil presence; 6) Monitor emergent plant growth response to drawdown.

Solberg Lake Association: Solberg Lake Apm Plan Update & Ais Education: Solberg Lake Association is sponsoring a project including the preliminary goals of 1) Effectively managing CLP infestation; 2) Improving navigation through Squaw Creek, Disappearing Creek and Comfort Cove; 3) Determine plant community diversity in lake; 4) Maintain and improve recreational opportunities; 5) Preserve native aquatic plants; 6) Protect and improve fish and wildlife habitat and Sensitive areas; 7) Evaluate water quality; 8) Educate lake users on AIS. A point intercept Aquatic Plant Survey will be completed and an Aquatic Plant Management Plan for Solberg Lake will be completed.

Solberg Lake Association: Solberg Lake Phase I, Aquatic Plant Management Plan: The Solberg Lake Association will conduct a two phase aquatic plant management project. This grant will fund phase I which will include a aquatic plant survey, a membership survey, and portions of the project data summaries including tables and maps.

The aquatic plant survey will characterize existing aquatic plant conditions in the lake. The membership study will be used to determine lake usage and plant management prefrences.

Specific deliverables for this grant include:
a summary of work completed including the membership survey and aquatic plant survey,
(a final report will be submitted with phase II of the project).

The Department will be provided with a paper copy of the summary.

Solberg Lake Association: Solberg Lake Phase Ii, Aquatic Plant Management Plan: The Solberg Lake Association will conduct a two phase aquatic plant management project. This grant will fund phase II of the project. Phase II will include the development of a aquatic plant managment plan which will include a definition of the problem, goals, explaination of plant ecology, various management techniques, and methods to evaluate progress.

The document will include documentation of the phase I aquatic plant survey results including both a tabular and graphic presentation. Aquatic plant management options will be discussed and a recommendation for plant management will be presented.

Specific deliverables for this grant project include:
a final report including maps and tables

The Department of Natural Resources will be provided with both a paper copy and an electronic copy of the final report. The project results will be disseminated to the public by newsletter(s), public meeting(s), and local newpaper articles.
